East Coker Pavilion Committee

East Coker Pavilion Committee is a fundraising group set up to finance and achieve the construction of a new sports pavilion at the playing fields in Longfurlong Lane, East Coker.

The current pavilion is dilapidated, old fashioned and simply too small for the functions it is required to perform. The pavilion is the home of East Coker pre-school playgroup, who use the pavilion every day to provide early years education and activities for the young children of the village and surrounding areas.

At weekends and in the evenings the pavilion is used to provide changing facilities and a clubhouse to the sports teams (currently cricket and football) based in the village. The pavilion is used to host meetings of the Parish Councill (who own the playing fields and the current pavilion). It is also hired out for birthday parties and fetes.

The committee was set up in 2002 and has currently raised over £25,000 towards the target of £250,000. Plans have been drawn up for a purpose built construction to suit the needs of all the aforementioned users, and planning permission has been granted. The Committee are now in the process of applying for grants to provide the balance of the monies required to complete the project.

The pavilion committee meet monthly at the current pavilion at Longfurlong Lane. The officers of the committee are:

Chairman - Robert Mead                      Vice-Chair - Bridget Sugg

Secretary - Paula Downes                    Treasurer - Martin Wells
