East Coker Poetry Group
East Coker Poetry Group began as a small gathering in May 2004 and there are now more than 50 participants, many from the village; others from further afield. The group meets on a regular basis, every five or six weeks, in the Helyar Arms, a stones throw from the church where T S Eliot is remembered.
The poetry meetings are informal, friendly and fun, with readings ranging from the erudite to the frankly ridiculous. At a Burns supper in January, McGonagall featured alongside Burns, Stevenson and Mackay Brown. Other events of the past year included Knights of Passion, an evening of poetry to woo, charm and conquer, and Animal Magic, picking up on the communitys fondness for animals, both wild and domestic.
For more information about the group, visit www.eastcokerpoetry.org.uk, or call Sue McKerracher on 01935 863633 for the latest news on events. The regular meetings are free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend.
